1. Orientations and Main Obejective
The mechanical school of Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) is responsible for the following missions of "Serving its country, the defence and Zhejiang province, Emphasising on engineering education, Highlighting the intelligent manufacturing”. The studies focuse on how to smart explore oceans, how to construct intelligent manufacturing system and how to design intelligent vehicles, and so on. Guided under the Industry 4.0, the discipline has built a locally leading mechatronical achievements with the IT superiorities and features of HDU, devoting to form a new development academic and engineer fronter such as "Internet plus ocean", "Internet plus manufacturing" and "Internet plus vehicle". The school has been strengthing cooperation with military enterprises, seized the development opportunities of information economy and marine development in Zhejiang Province, and served the national strategy and local economy. After the construction of the "13th Five-year Plan", the discipline will gradually make a breakthrough in studies of " intelligent ocean robot and deep sea measuring technology", "micro-nano-atom scales intelligent design, manufacturing theory and method", " ultrasonic processing technology" and " smart vehicles ", et al., reaching on domestic leading and internationally advanced level of the discipline.
2. Advantages and Characteristics
(1) Long history accumulations and future development superiority.
Our university belonged to the Ministry of electronic industry. The discipline developed from the electronic and precision machinery has made a great contribution to electronics industry. Especially in the 90s of the last century, the robotics of our school ranked in the top three in the country, the tactile and slip sensor manipulator developed by the school had reached an international advanced and a leading domestic level. Ultrasonic processing with reliability technology had solved the key technical problems in electronics and military industry at that time. In 2008, the discipline was listed in the“Key discipline”project of Zhejiang Province. Through the surports of this project, the discipline level had been greatly improved, the discipline ranked from
the top 33.84% in 2008 to 24.51% in 2014 (By Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (RCCSE)), which was ranked the first one in Zhejiang Provincial Colleges and universities. Especially in 2015, Hangzhou Dianzi university has been included in one of five of Zhejiang provincial key universities construction plan, depending on the IT characteristics.
(2) Civil-military unitedly helping the national and local economy.
Inherited from the advantages of the military, the discipline has made a major breakthrough in the field of deep sea exploration equipment and aircraft manufacturing equipment in recent years. In 2009, "Deep sea extreming environmental detection and sampling equipment technology" won the second-class award of the National Technology Invention Award. The intelligent equipment which developed by our school has been applied in the aircraft manufacturing of Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Co., Ltd. In the processing of serving national strategies, at the same time, the school merges into the local economic construction actively. In recent years, the school is devoted to the National ocean developments of Zhejiang Province, Deep integratiosn of “Industrialization and Informatization”, robot replacement factory workers, intelligent manufacturing etc., gives full play to the advantages of the discipline in marine equipment, intelligent manufacturing and other aspects. The school has built up more than ten all kinds of platforms with enterprises by cooperation, undertaken various scientific projects and achievements transformation over 350 items, won first prize of Provincial or ministry science and technology awards once, four times for second prizes, and five times for third prizes.
(3) The excellent engineering education.
Engineering education is priority; the quality of students is outstanding. The school emphasizes the engineering education of undergraduate students. The school has set up off campus practice base groups with three national practice bases, a provincial practice base as the core, the platform with a national experimental teaching demonstration center, 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers as the core. The discipline has implemented the "Outstanding Engineers Education Training Plan" executed by the ministry of education. Through cooperation with SIEMENS's industry-university project, we have improved the quality of teaching and engineering practice efficiently. Magazine of "intelligent manufacturing" and SIEMENS’s media
have made series reports on our teaching achievements. The engineering and innovation ability of our students has improved significantly. Our students won two first prizes in national challenge cup competition in 2013 and 2015. In 2015, we passed the engineering education accreditation, ranked the second one in Zhejiang provincial colleges and universities. The employment rate of the postgraduate students reaches 100% every year, and the employees are highly satisfied with our postgraduate students.
(4) Fundmental experimental and theorical research platforms and acdamic superiorities.
There are one program for Ph.D candidates in the the secondary discipline of "Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing Technology" in 2015 and one program for primer Master’s candidateds in mechanical engineering in 1996. It is one of the major disciplines of the construction of key universities and most important subjects in Zhejiang Province in 12th Five-Year. There are one Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory, one Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Industry and Iinformation, one National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, several central and local special financial support of the laboratories, and fifteen high level laboratories. The school has 22 full professors, including 10 doctoral directors. There are 1 share academician,1 National“Thousand Talents program”, 2“Thousand Talents program”of Zhejiang province (including a foreign professor), 1 national outstanding scientific and technological worker. There are more than 10 international influential cooperation scholars. In recent years, the school has been granted more than 65 research projects by National Natural Science Foundation, in which there is 1 key project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 23 general items, one 863 high tech project, 48 provincial-level projects, including 8 provincial key projects. The total scientific research funds reached 40 million yuan. More than 410 articles were cited in SCI/EI/ISTP. 133 invention national patents have been authorized. 12 monographs have been published. The subjects "marine intelligent equipment and technology", "mutiscale intelligent design, manufacturing theory and method", "ultrasonic processing technology" and "smart vehicles" and other direction not only have obvious characters, but also conform to the development direction of modern intelligent manufacturing. More than 15 faculties from the school have been appointed to work as the economic experts or young scientists in a number of enterprises or institutes for Technology transfer, popularization and promotion, which have played an important role in the economic transformation and pgrading, and smart city construction of Zhejiang province.
3. Cultivation goals
Aiming at academic research and industrial engineering, students will be trained to gain the critical thinking and creative capability by studying the fundamental theories and expertise knowledge aroundmechanical engineering. Students will learn the frontier knowledge of the control theories and its development. Graduates from this discipline are expected to undertake jobs of academic research and technology development independently.
To strengthen the "Mechanical Engineering" in Zhejiang Province, the top priority of thediscipline, "Mechanical Engineering" and "intelligent equipment manufacturing technology," the construction of two doctoral degree. Study on recruit full-time graduate students more than 100 people, doctor 3-4. Implementation of the graduate student science and technology innovation and engineering education program, make great efforts to cultivate outstanding graduate thesis, efforts to improve the provincial outstanding master's degree thesis quantity and proportion and research students Cobb rate. 4. The subject direction setting
Four major orientations are involved in this discipline. They are (1) marine intelligent equipment and technology which carries out the researches around oean robot, sea floor measurement and test theories and systems, and port device design, etc. (2) multi scale intelligent design, manufacturing theory and method which carries out the researches around nano test\manufacturing\MEMS\medicine, etc.(3) ultrasonic processing technology which carries out the researches around ultrasonic machining theory /device/ in advanced material in aircraft and (4) smart vehicles which mainly carries out smart automation/active safety,etc.
5. Domestic and international influence
This discipline was elected as the “The most Important Discipline” of Zhejiang province in 2008, and elected as the “Key in key Primary Discipline” of Zhejiang province in 2012. The school has established good cooperations on scientific research, academic exchanges and personnel trainings with organizations in Finland, Denmark, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Turkey, Singapore, Korea, Japan and other countries of the Especially in recent years, futurism students to Japan, Saitama University, Britain at Coventry University, the University of Southern Denmark, Paris five big and so on college students. Subject to host or host international and domestic academic conferences 2-3 times per year. The discipline successfully organized or sponsored several important international and domestic conferences. In 2009 hosted the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Shuangqing forum, 2011 hosted the meeting, President of the 9th National School of mechanical engineering, 2015 hosted the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Zhejiang provincial government joint fund project review meeting.
